Reduce poverty by means of horticulture
(KPL) Many families in north-western Sayaboury province can earn more than 100 million kip from doing agriculture.
Mr. Thonglao Biayathor said his family farmed and reared animals and he set an example to neighbours on how to reduce poverty. Mr Thonglao said, “I went into planting fruits in 1986 with rambutans and
lychee and I enjoyed harvesting them when the trees bore fruits.”
“From May to June is harvest time for lychee, July to August for rambutan and November to December for orange,” said Mr. Thonglao.
He said that he collected more than one tonne of rambutans per day.
Mr Thonglao plants three kinds of fruits on seven hectares of farmland. And annually, he earns between 90-100 million kip from selling fruits. Mr Thonglao sells his fruits to merchants in the province and exports some of them to Luang Prabang and Vientiane markets.
