Smuggled pork destroyed
(KPL) The authority of Vientiane capital put on fire 50 kg of pork smuggled from a neighbouring country last Friday in Vientiane Capital in an attempt to curb the current outbreak of blue-ear disease or porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS).
The Vientiane Industry and Commerce Service seized the pork at Sikhay market, Sikhottabong district, in the last two weeks.
Smugglers have been educated according to regulations. The latest inspection of an ad-hoc committee for preventing and controlling PRRS, in the middle of this month, found that pigs in 14 farms in the districts of Nasaithong, Saythany, Hardsaifong, Sisattanark and Sikhottabong have been infected with the PRRS. More than 1,000 pigs have been reported dead in those farms as a consequence of infection.
The seizure and burning of the pork demonstrates a strict measure of Vientiane Capital to curb and monitor the ongoing severe outbreak of PRRS that seems to be spreading out widely.
