Dengue fever further threatens people

(KPL) The dengue fever epidemic this year has severely spread out and took longer than the past years as a consequence of unusual weather conditions.

Now the spread of dengue fever is on top gear, which started in early June, said Deputy Director of Mahosoth hospital, Assoc. Professor Dr. Bounkong Sihavong, on 21 July.

The fever has an average rate of infection of 200 people per day, 100 people of whom were diagnosed in critical condition and two children among them died of the fever, he said. Presently, more than 250 adults and 200 children reported to be infected with dengue fever are being treated in Mahosoth, a major hospital in the Laotian capital.

Facing the sharp increase in the number of patients, the hospital does not have enough space and resource for patients.

So the doctor has let patients with less severe condition go home.

The patients should drink a lot of water and have fresh fruit, Dr. Bounkong advised.
