Environmental workshop for journalists held
(KPL) In collaboration with the Lao Journalists’ Association, the Environment Department held a workshop on environmental protection for journalists from print and electronic media, Vientiane Capital, on 21 July.
The workshop was chaired by Head of the Environment Department, Dr Viengsavanh Douangsavanh.
There were 50 journalists participating in this event who were eager to have a profound understanding of the policies, measures and plans for implementing environmental protection in the areas of hydropower, industry and mining.
During the workshop, the journalists were taught some basic regulations and laws on environment, national environmental measures, decrees on the evaluation of social and environment impacts.
They have discussed issues of environment impacts learned from environmental protection experts.
The two model environmental protection projects included Theun-Hinboun Power Company and MMG, Sepon Gold Mining were also raised in the workshop.
The workshop also discussed how journalists can bridge the gap between them by communicating better with each other.
Several journalists also produced news articles as a result of their workshop participation.
Dr Viengsavanh expressed an appreciation for the trainees and lecturers for their active contribution to the workshop.
