Chao Anouvong statue to be unveiled soon

(KPL) Vientiane administration said this week the statute of King Anouvong would be unveiled to the public soon.

The statue with eight metre high and three metre wide is expected to stand in the Mekong river park. The king will be represented holding a sword in his left hand while gesturing with his right.

Between seven and eight tonnes of bronze are reportedly used for casting the king statute with an investment of around five billion kip. The installation ceremony of the statute is expected to take place in November and around 5,430 people have been recruited to serve the ceremony.

The eighteenth century saw the decline of the Lane Xang monarchy. The kingdom split into three smaller dynasties and was invaded and controlled by Siamese soldiers.

However, the Lao people maintained their unity, frequently rebelling against Siamese rulers and the most outstanding movement of that time was led by King Anouvong (between 1827 and 1828.
