Rice harvest in Viraboury completes by 80%

(KPL) Farmers in Viraboury district, Savannakhet province, known as the largest rice growing province, have harvested 80% of rice grown on 4,238 ha.
Deputy Head of Viraboury District Agriculture and Forestry Promotion Office, Mr. Somphone Latsamud, said the harvest is slower than last year’s because of rainfalls and compared to last year the farmers completed transplanting rice much late.
“Due to such problems the rice yield of the farmers is insufficient,” he said.
The office is encouraging the farmers in the district to plant various kinds of crops such as cucumber, maize, chili, long bean and vegetables on a total of 80 ha during this dry season.
In addition to cash crops, the district also needs some 80 ha of its land to be planted with rice.
