Russian foreign minister visits Laos

(KPL) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his delegates arrived here on 20 July for a two-day official visit to Laos as the invitation of his Laotian counterpart Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith.

The visit by Mr Lavrov also marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations (October 7, 1960 to October 7, 2010).

The visit aims at enhancing traditional relations and cooperation between the two countries, according to a statement from the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mr Lavrov is scheduled to meet with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Thongloun Sisoulith, and pay courtesy calls to Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh and President Choummaly Sayasone, the statement said.

The Russian delegation will also visit economic and cultural sites in Vientiane.

After the Lao visit, the delegation will leave for Vietnam to attend the 43rd Asean Ministerial Meeting (AMM) and related meetings in Hanoi, scheduled for July 19-23.
