Chinese Government hands over blue-ear disease vaccines to Laos
(KPL) The People’s Republic of China has sent four specialists, 20,000 doses of vaccines and lab diagnostic reagent of blue-ear disease worth US$90,000 to the Lao Department of Livestock and Fishery Extension to curb the ongoing blue-ear disease epidemic in Vientiane Capital.
The handover ceremony of blue-ear disease vaccine or porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) was held Vientiane Capital, on 19 July, aiming at fighting back the current severe outbreak of blue-ear disease epidemic in Vientiane Capital. Representing Chinese Government, Mr. Tian Kegong, Head of the Chinese Agriculture’s Bureau of Veterinary Service handed over the aid package to Mr. Bounkhouang Khambounheaung, Director General of Livestock and Fishery Extension Department.
Mr. Bounkhouang said that the 25 pig farms in six districts of Vientiane Capital were hit by the blue-ear disease epidemic, which started in June.
As a result, more than 7,000 pigs were infected with blue-ear disease and 1,300 pigs were killed.
The outbreak of infectious disease has also the impacts on pig raisers, consumers and to social-economic development in Vientiane Capital.
He has called on pig raisers in Vientiane Capital who were hit by blue-ear disease can receive vaccines from the department to inject sick pigs in order to curb the ongoing epidemic.
More than 200 pigs in victim farms have received vaccines with its property of four months. Presently, four Chinese specialists are on disease analysing mission.
