President urges Women’s Union to further protect rights and interest of women
(KPL) President Choummaly Sayasone has urged the Lao Women’s Union to further act as representative for protecting women’s rights and interest in line with policies set by the Party and government.
Speaking at a gland meeting to mark the 55th founding anniversary of Lao Women’s Union held here on July 20, President Choummaly urged the Lao Women’s Union to promote gender role, job creation, education, health care of women and their participation in the national development.
“Women’s Union plays an important role in enhancing the unity of Lao ethnic women countrywide for materializing Party’s and government’s policies, as well as the seventh 5-year Socio-economic development plan (2011-2015),” said Mr. Chommaly.
At the meeting, President of the Lao Women’s Union, Mrs. Sysai Luedethmounsone, briefed the participants about the history of the Lao Women’s Union.
She highlighted works and achievements of the Union over the past 55 years in areas of politics, national defense and public security, and socio-economic development.
She appreciated the Union’s members on their unanimous contribution to the national protection and construction in line with the directive of the Party and policies of the government.
Also present at the meeting were Standing Deputy Prime Minister, Somsavat Lengsavad, who also wears another hat as President of National Committee for Women’s Advancement, representatives of mass organizations, members of the Lao Women’s Union.
