Savannakhet: locally made cement shares 80 per cent of market consumption

(KPL) Locally made cement holds over 80 per cent of market share in Savannakhet as it is cheaper than imported cement.

The Lao Cement Company, producer of Kathing (bull) brand cement has reportedly said it would increase production capacity from the current 150,000 tonnes a year to 165,000 tonne annually next year if the demand of domestic market didn’t ease.

The increased consumption in the province is attributed to the development of 600 ha Savan-Seno Economic Zone, the development of shopping mall, housing estates, industrial factories, hotels, hospitals and accommodation infrastructure.

Manager of Kathing Brand Factory in Savannakhet province Mr. Thongpon Kingkhampheth said last week that the Kathing brand cement factory is an investment of 3 million US dollars. The factory was built in 2003. Since then, it has enjoyed positive domestic demand.

Over 80 per cent of cement from the company is sold in the province and the rest 20 per cent is exported to neighbouring provinces.
