Vientiane Capital ranks top list of crime

(KPL) The Ministry of National Security held a meeting to evaluate the prevention of social shortcoming phenomena in Vientiane Capital, on 19 July.

The meeting was presided over by Minister of National Security Thongbanh Seng-aphone who is also a member of Party Central Committee.

Taking part in the event were Vice-Minister, Vientiane Mayor, Governors and deputy Governors, security forces of all districts countryside.

The participants have evaluated the security works in society and the prevention of social shortcoming phenomena over the past six months of this year as well as set a new plan of social security.

Brigadier General Seumsouk Simphavong, Director General of Police Department of Ministry of National Security briefed about general conditions of social security work over the past one year that there were 4,226 criminal cases happening countrywide, 1,880 cases of which were burglary, 404 cases of drug trafficking, 310 cases of snatching and 27 cases of robbery.

Over the past one year, 754 people died of 5,490 accidents happening nationwide.

The cases of illegal logging activities and land conflict over the past one year were difficult to be coped with, said Mr Seumsouk. The land conflict in Vientiane Capital are found 2, 126 cases, accounting for 50.30 per cent in the countrywide.

In the first half of the 2010, 938 criminal cases happened in Laos, 284 of which were burglary.

The security force has also smashed 164 drug traffickers and detained 39 snatchers, 14 robbers and 10 homicides.

Vientiane Capital was ranked the top list of criminal cases, accounting for 65 per cent of total case happening countrywide.
