Lao Women’s Rugby Seven team trains for coming Asian Women’s Seven tournament
(KPL) The Lao National Women’s Rugby team had been training seriously in its attempt to put up a good show at the coming Asian Women’s Seven, in Guangzhou, late July.
The Lao team was the current champion, Division Three, Asian Women’s Rugby Tournament, held in Thailand last year.
Speaking at a press conference, Captain (Mrs) Manolak Songkharm said that the Lao team would have a complement of 12 players, a coach and two administrators, in Vientiane, last week.
For this tournament, the Lao women rugby players would have to pit their strength and skill against the teams from India, Kazakstan, China, Taipei, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Cambodia and Uzbekistan.
The expenses of this team’s away matches in China came from the coffer of ANZ Vientiane Commercial Bank. Its director general, Mr Carrot, who also spoke at this press conference said that his bank had been funding this rugby team’s participation in international tournaments since 2008 and he added it also funded the recruitment and nurturing of new blood for this national team.
