600,000 fingerlings released into Nonghane marsh
(KPL) Lao-Indochina Group on Wednesday released 600,000 fingerlings into Nonghane marsh, Natharm village, Parkngum district, Vientiane Capital, in compensation for the damage the company caused to the marsh few years ago.
The company reportedly promised the village three years ago it would release 1.5 million fingerlings into the Nonghane marsh within three years after a large number of fish in the Nonghane marsh died of toxic waste released by the tapioca factory of the company. The fish fingerling release is the second time for the company. Its first release was recorded in last year.
The release is also to mark the 13th national day for wildlife and aquatic animal preservation (July13).
Around three million fingerlings and 200 wild animals have been released into the rivers and forest in the district, according to the Agriculture and Forestry Office of Parkngum district.
Participating in a ceremony, held on July 14, to release the 98-million kip fingerling were Chief of Parkngum district, Mr. Cheuva Saytong, President of the Lao- Indochina Group, Mr. Sengmaly Sengvatthana, and relevant officials.
