Lao Sports Day marked in Borikhamsay
(KPL) A sports event to mark the 44 th Anniversary of Lao Sports Day was officially held in Borikhamsay province yesterday. The four-day event was supported by the Lao National Sports Committee.
This event was comprised more than 1,000 athletes from Vientiane Capital and 16 provinces to compete in 10 sport events—football, beach volleyball, muay lao, boxing, petanque, badminton, sepak takraw, top spinning, crossbows, and track and field.
The organizing committee of the event has prepared 73 gold, 73 silver and 80 bronze medals for the participating athletes to win.
Deputy Governor of Borikhamxay province, Dr Souvanny Saysana said it was the first time for his province to host the event and the province had spent more than 2 billion kip on its organisation.
Vientiane Capital sent 140 athletes to compete at the event. Meanwhile another 27 athletes were from Huaphanh province, 63 from Oudomsay, 64 from Luang Prabang, 40 from Luang Namtha, and 46 from Xiengkhuang.
The northernmost province Phongsaly sent 14 athletes to the event, Borkeo 36, Sayaboury 31, Vientiane province 61, Savannakhet 81, Champassak 131, Saravan 30, Sekong 70 and Attapue 29.
Present at the opening ceremony of the event was Standing Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Somsavat Lengsavad, President of the Lao National Sports Committee, Dr Phouthong Seng-akhom, Borikhamxay provincial Governor, Mr Pan Noymany, athletes and officials.
