Blue ears disease further spread out

(KPL) The Taskforce Committee has adjusted to raise its measure to curb the blue ears disease or porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) after finding the outbreak of disease has severely persisted to two districts.

The latest inspection of taskforce committee for preventing and controlling PRRS, on 12 July, found that pigs in more five farms in Nasaithong and Saythany district have been infected with the PRRS, increased to 14, from nine farms in Hardsaifong, Sisattanark and Sikhottabong districts.

The committee found that number of death has sharply increased to 1,063 from 190. And 577 pigs were infected with the disease out of more than 7,000 pigs are a high risk of infection with disease in those farms.

As a result, a meeting of the Vientiane Agriculture and Forestry Service’s Taskforce Committee in cooperation with the Department of Livestock and Fishery Extension and nine districts’ Agriculture and Forestry Services was held on 13 July, to raise the measure level to curb and monitor the ongoing severe outbreak of PRRS that seems to be spread out widely.

The meeting under chairmanship of Vice-Mayor Anouphab Toulalom who is also Chairman of Taskforce Committee for Controlling PRRS has sought to better prevent and control the PRRS, severe infectious disease, has not further spread out to other areas.

The meeting has asked better coordination among local authority, pig farm owners, the Department of Livestock and Fishery Extension of veterinarians to lay out curbing plan in the infectious farms.

To inform farm owners paid close attention to take care their pigs and separate healthy pigs from sick one.

In addition, the technical teams have been assigned to work in each the infected pig farms and slaughterhouses to strictly monitor pigs movement from farms, which is based on Prime Minister’s directive on taking measures of control over the current outbreak of the blue ears and Vientiane Mayor’s measure.
