Oxfam Australia in Laos helps reduce poverty in Samouai
(KPL) Oxfam Australia in Laos has granted 2.2 billion kip (US$ 263,330) to ten villages in Samouai district, Saravane province, to support their poverty reduction.
The ten villages include Adaengkotai, Atouk, Laloh, Away, Aho, Pihai, Phinbe, Talatai, Kaboi and Talor Neua.
The agreement on providing the grant assistance to the said villages was signed at Lane Xang Hotel, Vientiane, on March 5.
The signatories to the document were Mr. Korakan Thoummavong, Head of the Grassroots Capacity Building and Integrated Rural Development Office of Saravane province, and Mr. Khamluang Keota, Representative of Oxfam Australia in Laos. Relevant officials of both sides witnessed the signing.
“This project focuses on improving the living conditions of the poor in rural areas, by improving agricultural production, developing small-scale irrigation systems and safe water system and improving sanitation of the villagers,” said Mr. Keovisay Bounteum, Oxfam Australia in Laos.
“The project is a three-year term,” added Mr. Keovisay.
