More rural people in Houaphanh to access to water supply this year end

(KPL) Mr. Phon Vannavone, Office Head of the Water Supply and Sanitation Construction Project of Samtay district, Houaphanh province, confirmed that late this year, more than 1,000 households with a population of 5,000 in five villages will access to water supply. The water supply construction project in the district is now achieved by 60 percent and the construction work is expected to be over at the end of this year. Starting in February 2009, the work has completed the headwork, 15 m long and 1.80 m wide, laid out 14-km long water pipe and a full set facility of water supply production. This is a small water plant with a daily production capacity of 1,270 cubic metres. The construction will take 18 months at a total cost of USD 1.3 million. The construction was granted and loaned by the Asian Development Bank, the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, the UN-Habitat, the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), the Lao Government and local people.
