Laos and Vietnam further cooperation on sports

(KPL) The Lao National Sports and Gymnastics Committee and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam signed here on March 12 an agreement to further their cooperation on sports. The signatories to the document were Mr. Phouthong Sengakhom, President of the Lao National Sports and Gymnastics Committee, Mr. Hoang Tuan Anh, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam. Relevant officials of both sides witnessed the signing.

Laos issues Thai travel warming

(KPL) The Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 12 March issued a warming to Lao citizens advising them not to travel to Thailand, especially to Bangkok, after the Thai government invoked the Internal Security Act to run from 11-23 March. The ministry warns the general public, officials, business people and students not to go to Thailand while the Internal Security Act is in force.

One thousand Laotians study in Aussie tertiary institutions

(KPL) The World Bank supported the Lao government’s education sector through the Second Education Development Project or EDP 11, by means of a gift of USD 15.5 million. The money would be put to work in the 19 poorest districts in six provinces, to improve primary enrolment and completion and to enable the Ministry of Education to develop policies to manage primary education.

Prime Minister receives a delegation from Vietnam’s Ministry of Justice

(KPL) Mr Bouasone Bouphavanh, Prime Minister, received here a courtesy visit of a Vietnamese delegation, led by Mr Ha Hung Cuong, Minister of Justice of Vietnam on 12 March. The Vietnamese Justice delegation was on a six-day working visit to Laos, 7 to 12 March. Mr Ha told Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh, that during his stay in Laos, he would be working closely with the Minister of Justice of Laos, Dr Chaleun Yapaoheu.

Construction of new Luang Prabang airport kicks off

(KPL) The Luang Prabang Airport construction project has run for almost two months which designed to support the landing of big planes in the future. The preparation for Luang Prabang Airport construction has been conducted for a long time. The new airport will able to support the Boeing 737 and Airbus 320, and the other planes can also land in case of the Wattay International Airport in Vientiane had a problem, said Vice Governor of Luang Prabang province, Mr. Khampheng Saysompheng.

Disabled job seekers receive cold reception from employers in Laos

(KPL) Ministry of Labour and Social-Welfare and ASEAN-Japan Integration Fund, organized a workshop on promoting the employment of people with disability in Laos, at the National Culture Hall on 12 March. The purpose of this workshop was to encourage people with disabilities to be gainfully employed so as to enjoy running incomes and to get themselves out of poverty.

Political System of the Lao PDR

The Lao PDR divides the local administration into three levels: the provincial level ( Provinces and Capital city), the district level ( districts and municipal areas) and village level ( villages). The judiciary organization consists of the People’s Courts and Public Prosecution Institutes. The People’s Courts are the judicial organizations of the state, comprising of the People’s Supreme Court, Appeal’s Court, People’s Provincial and Capital City Courts, People’s District Courts and Military Courts.

Laos switches off all lights during Earth Hour

(KPL) The Department of the Environment and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) held a discussion on switching off all the electricity generating machines during Earth Hour, a global campaign, in Vientiane on 12 March. During this meeting the two parties decided that the electricity of the whole of Laos would be switched off for just one hour, from 19:00 hours to 20:00 hours on 27 March.

Sayabouly to export over USD 13 million in quarter 2

(KPL) Sayabouly province plans to have revenues of its export in the second quarter reach USD 13 million and import only USD 8 million, said Head of Industry and Commerce Service of Sayabouly province, Mr. Somdy Sooksavath. “The province will continue promote the market-oriented production of businesse and reduce the import of products that will affect the local ones,” said Mr. Somdy.

Result of the 7th Japanese Speech Contest

(KPL) The 7th Japanese Speech Contest was held at the Lao-Japan Budo Centre, Vientiane last Saturday, to promote mutual understanding between Lao and Japanese people and enhance Japanese language studies in Laos. Twenty-one young Lao competitors from Vientiane Capital, Luang Prabang and Savannakhet provinces presented their Japanese language skill in reciting Japanese texts and delivering speeches which they had prepared themselves.

Vietnam , Laos move to step up sports cooperation

(KPL) Vietnam will help Laos continue with the second-phase of construction of its national sports training centre in 2010 and 2011. This is part of a cooperation programme signed between the visiting Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh and the Chairman of the Laos National Sports Committee, Phouthong Seng Akhom, in Vientiane on March 12.

Water environment management discussed

(KPL) The Steering Committee on Water Environment Management Plan held a meeting on March 10 in Vientiane to discuss water environment management in Vientiane. The event was chaired by Vice Mayor of Vientiane, Mr. Bounchanh Sinthavong. Mrs. Hiloko Kamata, Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and representatives of relevant organisations attended the meeting.

To begin constructing Lao-Vietnamese veterans’ association this month’s end

(KPL) The construction of the first Lao-Vietnamese veterans’ association in Vientiane province is scheduled to take place at the end of this month with an investment of 416 million kip. The future association will be constructed in Phonehae village, Thoulakhom district, Vientiane province and its construction is planned to be over in July this year.
