Laos and Vietnam further co-operation on trade unions

MMG pays US$280-million tax for 2003-2010 periods
(KPL) The Minerals and Metals Group (MMG) or Lane Xang Minerals Limited Sepon contributed socio-economic assistance to the local authority of Vilaboury district, Savannakhet province, said the Community Relations Manager of this mining company, Mr Khamvieng Xayabouth.

Sweden helps Ketsana victims in Laos
(KPL) The Government of Sweden has provided more than US$700,000 to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) in the Lao PDR to assist the ongoing relief work for communities affected by typhoon Ketsana in the southern parts of the country, according to a joint FAO-WFP press release issued yesterday.

Metal age skeletal human remain discovered
(KPL) A jar containing human skeletons, dating back about 2000 years, age of metal has been discovered in Anema cave in Luang Prabang province.
This statement was disclosed in a lecture on successful report on archaeological research of the Middle Mekong Archaeological Project (MMAP) held at the National Museum, last Friday.

Information Minister receives outgoing Chinese Ambassador

Charity body gives gifts to typhoon victims

Lao officers learn Indonesian language
(KPL) Around 80 Vientiane residents and Lao officers from the ministries of National Defence and Public Security have learnt Indonesian language, as part of cultural exchange, enhancement of friendship and solidarity between Laos and Indonesia.
A six-month training course is organised by the Indonesian Embassy in Laos which participants would learn from her native teachers from Monday to Thursday.

Japan disseminates culture to Lao students
(KPL) Laos–Japan Cooperation Centre on Human Resource Development, based in Vientiane and the Japanese volunteers, based in Laos, organised a Japanese cultural familiarisation programme for the students of Thongkham primary school, Thoulakhom district, Vientiane province on 3 February.
Mr. Akira Miyoshi, an expert on promoting understanding between Laos and Japan and who was based in Japan attended this programme.

Phongsaly establishes Science and Technology Service

Celebration of King Fa Ngum’s monument installation
(KPL) Vientiane residents are preparing to celebrate the seventh anniversary of the installation of King Fa Ngum’s Monument, on 3-5 January 2010.
The monument to this great Lao king, who united and founded the Kingdom of Lane Xang, was installed on 5 January 2003. The Ministry of Information and Culture had collaborated with relevant bodies to draw up a programme for the celebration.
